This year was a little different because we opted to stay home instead of taking our new baby Daxton out to all the family parties. We just decided it would be better to be safe then sorry during the flu season. Brett would take Isaac to his extended family and I took Isaac to mine. Unfortunately, on Christmas Eve we always have Brett's Grandma Nielsen's party. Since we wanted to be together we had a totally different Christmas Eve then what we usually have. I have to say, it was so much fun starting our own family traditions and being at home together.

We let Isaac open a "game" present, so we could play that night. He got "Don't Break the Ice." This game has been around for ages and I have never played it, but we had a blast playing as a family. Isaac finally got the hang of not letting the polar bear fall and he really enjoyed when he won and someone else made the bear fall in.

In the morning Brett took Isaac sledding to a giant hill next to us. He was warming up right outside our house so I could see him. The boy is fearless and would go off big jumps if Brett would let him. I think it will be fun going sledding together as a family... hopefully next year! (One year olds like the cold snow, right?)

That night we made a yummy soup and decorated a giant gingerbread house. Isaac enjoyed nibbling the candy and sticking it to the house.

It turned out pretty cute and it was a really fun family activity.

We baked cookies for Santa, which Isaac has to leave him a million because he says, "Santa has to leave some for him when he wakes up in the morning." He's all about sharing, even if it does benefit him a little! We left plenty of carrots for the reindeer... Isaac knew there was a lot that would be coming. This year he's gotten very observant and realized we didn't have a chimney for Santa to come down. No worries though, we left the front door open for him.
Isaac opened his Buzz Lightyear PJ's, we read Christmas stories, and got tucked into bed. And where was Daxton through all of this? Sleeping. That's what newborns do best! And yes, I blew it and forgot to take a sleeping picture of Daxton on his first Christmas Eve. (So much for trying to keeping things even with my kids!)
Staying at home and being together was so much fun. It was so relaxing being together by the tree all night. I loved the feeling of excitement in our home and it made me really remember the true sprit of Christmas.
