Mystery Garden

This has got to be the greatest story ever!!! So, early on in the Spring, we were prepping our dirt for new soil and flowers. We were talking to Isaac about what we wanted to plant. He said he wanted to plant his own pumpkin. Later that day he ran up and showed me some seeds he found with his friend Gage. They found them somewhere in an empty lot behind Gages house. I didn't think much of it. He took it upon himself to plant those little seeds in the ground on the side of out house. He watered them and took care of them. He mentioned it to us, but we were unaware where he planted them. Then one day we saw something sprout but we didn't pick it. It didn't look like a weed and Isaac was so excited because he said thats where he planted his pumpkin! WHAT?! But sure enough, it kept growing. So the vegetables I planted next to them so weren't going to stand up next to this pumpkin. So week after week we watched this plant grow, thinking it was a zucchini re-seeding itself from the year before. It looked a lot like a zucchini. It got big, it got flower, it turned green. But then it's shape was getting really long. We asked neighbors. They all had their guesses. Yes it's a zucchini, no it's a squash... that might be a pumpkin? And then as we watched it turned into...

A pumpkin! It turned orange and kept growing really long. It has to be a cross breed of a pumpkin and a squash. We still aren't sure. We just know, are little Isaac planted his own seed, watered it, and it grew into something he was so proud of! He got 3 of them!

Every week the boys would check on them. It was actually very exciting to watch. If I would have know the story it was creating, I would have taken pictures along the way!

It grew so long, it was out into our grass. Brett had to mow around it!

October finally came and we decided we would pick them and put them on our porch.

The first one was super big!!! And heavy! 

The boys were so proud of their tall pumpkins. They didn't stand up great. There was no bottom. I eventually had to cut off a slice so they would stand. Everyone commented on these tall pumpkins, wanting to know where we got them. Isaac couldn't have been happier. I am happy something that he did on his own worked out so well.
